CHILD REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM
 
															The Child Representative Program is the only community-based initiative in Canada that provides trained professionals to support and accompany child refugee claimants through their immigration legal proceedings. In addition to the Centre’s staff taking on this work, the Centre also recruits, trains and supports volunteer settlement workers and legal professionals to provide this support.
 
															All Child Representatives are trained in our children’s rights framework to ensure that children are empowered to make decisions about their own lives
 
															Child Representatives ensure that refugee children do not fall through the cracks of the various systems that they interact with
ROLE OF THE CHILD REPRESENTATIVE
 
															Child Representatives will:
Serve as support persons for children in all aspects of their immigration processes
Be formally appointed as Designated Representatives for children in proceedings before the Immigration and Refugee Board

															Are you a settlement / social services worker or a legal professional?
Do you have familiarity with the Canadian immigration and refugee system?
Do you have experience working with children or youth?

															All prospective volunteers will be required to undergo an interview, vulnerable sector screening and training
 
															The time commitment will vary according to each unique child’s case and situation. We work with volunteers to ensure that the commitment is balanced with their availability
