ANCHOR HOUSE
A first stop of welcome, safety and support for unaccompanied children and youth arriving in Toronto

In partnership with the City of Toronto, the Centre for Refugee Children opened Anchor House in 2025 to provide emergency housing to unaccompanied and separated refugee children (ages 16-18) during their initial weeks and months in Canada.
Anchor House is the first emergency housing program in Canada designed to exclusively support to unaccompanied and separated refugee children.

SUPPORT OFFERED AT ANCHOR HOUSE

12 beds for unaccompanied refugee claimant youth (ages 16-18)

Meal program and basic need amenities (access to laundry, exercise equipment, computers, etc.) provided onsite

24/7 staffing to provide onsite support and assistance

Wraparound settlement and legal services to support residents with their refugee claim process, school registration, income security and other settlement needs

Individual housing services to support residents to move forward into longer-term housing accommodations, including transitional housing and private market housing options

Activities and programming to promote life skill development and build community among residents

Referrals to Anchor House are made through the City of Toronto’s Central Intake line. Please call Central Intake at 416-338-4766 to refer an unaccompanied refugee claimant youth to Anchor House.
Please note that since Anchor House is an emergency housing program, we do not maintain a waiting list, but accept referrals as beds become available.
